A COVID-19 outbreak has resulted in the partial lockdown of the 497 female inmates at York Correctional institution within the Niantic element of East Lyme, state detention center officers established late Wednesday afternoon.

department officials stated that the reformatory is operating beneath a “modified flow plan” that begun on Nov. 30. “although the inmates’ movements are restricted, they continue to have each day alternatives to use the mobile and take showers,” stated Karen Artucci, director of exterior affairs for the branch of Correction.

Martucci stated that there are 14 symptomatic and 9 asymptomatic COVID-19 instances. those inmates are being housed in a clinical isolation on the Niantic reformatory.

Martucci referred to in-grownup, non-contact social visits have been temporarily suspended at York.

“Following a deep cleaning of the establishment, we have begun scheduling video visits for instruments now not impacted by the recent COVID-19 cases applying Microsoft groups expertise, freed from cost,” she pointed out.

In April, family members and pals of inmates at York CI proven in try to force a release of prisoners in the early weeks of the coronavirus pandemic.
